Welcome to Malay Weddings

At the thought of Malay Weddings..
the following will come to mind.

  • Traditions
  • Large crowd
  • Days of feast
  • Tears
  • Arguments
  • Gossiping
The main question..whose wedding is it anyway? Is it really the wedding for the bride and groom? or is it really wedding of the parents?
Take a look at the invitation list..bride / groom guests probably makes up only 10-15% of the invite. Typical malay wedding customs. But I guess this happens coz its the parents who pay for the wedding. Plus, the bride and groom won't have much time to chit chat with their guest anyway, might as well hold a separate gathering session.
The rest..are parents friends and relatives..and you can just see the bride and groom going round to meet the guests with the fake smiles. I guess this happens not just in Malay wedding, but in all weddings.
Anyway..these past few years..I haven't been a fan of going to Malay weddings. Chinese weddings serve better food [since i prefer chinese than malay food]. But looks like now it's no escape.
2012 looks set to be wedding year in my family..with my brothers official wedding ceremony in March 2012, and wedding reception in June 2012. My cousin no 4 will have his wedding in April. Another cousin is planning to tie the knot this year too..
So thus the idea for this blog was born. Might as well capitalise on these joyous occasion, perhaps sending out message to the universe to realise my plans too, and hopefully earn some additional funding for the wedding.
Hope you enjoy reading the upcoming posts.
